Easy Christmas Jam (No Pectin!)

There is something so comforting about making homemade jam on the stovetop. It smells amazing, uses simple ingredients, and doesn’t require any special tools or store-bought pectin. This blueberry strawberry and cranberry jam is sweet, slightly tangy, and thickened naturally—with an optional gelatin boost if you want it extra jammy.

This recipe is perfect for beginners and super forgiving. You can adjust the sweetness, texture, and thickness as you go.

Why You’ll Love This Jam

• No pectin needed

• Uses fresh or frozen fruit

• Easy to thicken

• Ready in about 20–30 minutes

• Perfect for toast, biscuits, yogurt, or desserts

Ingredients

• 2 cups blueberries

• ½–1 cup strawberries, chopped or mashed

• ¼–⅓ cup sugar (adjust to taste)

• 1/4 cup cranberry sauce (optional, for flavor + thickness)

Optional thickener

• 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin

• 2 tablespoons cold water

How to Make Blueberry Strawberry Jam

1. Combine the ingredients

Add the blueberries, strawberries, sugar, and cranberry sauce to a saucepan. Stir everything together over medium heat.

2. Bring to a gentle boil

As the fruit heats up, it will release juice. Once you see small steady bubbles, lower the heat slightly so it stays at a gentle boil. Stir often so it doesn’t burn.

3. Mash the fruit

Use a fork or potato masher to mash the fruit as it cooks. Mash more for a smoother jam, or less if you like it chunky.

4. Cook until thick

Let the jam gently boil for 10–15 minutes, stirring every 30–60 seconds. The jam will look glossy and start coating the spoon. Remember: it thickens more as it cools.

Optional: Make It Thicker with Gelatin

If you want a firmer, more set jam:

1. Mix 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin with 2 tablespoons cold water.

2. Let it sit for 2–3 minutes until spongy.

3. Remove the jam from heat and stir in the gelatin until fully dissolved.

4. Return to low heat for 1–2 minutes (do not hard boil).

Once chilled, the jam will thicken beautifully.

How to Tell When It’s Done

• It coats the back of a spoon

• Drips slowly instead of running

• Thickens more after cooling

You can also test it by placing a spoonful on a cold plate and letting it sit for 30 seconds.

Storage

• Let cool completely

• Store in a sealed container or jar

• Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks

Final Thoughts

This blueberry strawberry jam is simple, cozy, and customizable. Whether you like it chunky or smooth, soft or thick, it’s hard to mess up. Homemade jam doesn’t have to be complicated—and once you try it, you may never go back to store-bought.
