👩🍳 Instructions
1. Cream the butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar with a hand mixer until light and fluffy.
2. Add wet ingredients: Mix in the vanilla extract, almond extract, and egg until smooth and combined.
3. Add the flour: Add the flour one cup at a time, mixing gently after each addition, until a soft dough forms.
4. Divide and color: Split the dough into 4 equal parts. Tint each with a different color — vermilion, chartreuse, pink, and black.
5. Roll and chill: Roll out each colored dough section between parchment sheets to about ¼ inch thick. Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.
6. Shape the “buttons”: Cut circles using a cookie cutter. Press a smaller cutter in the center to make a ring indent, then use a straw to poke 4 holes for the button look.
7. Bake: Arrange on parchment-lined sheets and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–12 minutes, until set but not browned.
8. Cool: Let the cookies cool completely before serving or storing.
