🧁 Before You Start
Set up your workspace — this recipe moves fast once the sugar reaches the right temperature.
• Line a nonstick tray or sheet pan with a generous dusting of powdered sugar.
• Keep a candy thermometer nearby if you have one.
• Have your cinnamon oil and food coloring ready to go.
• Make sure kids, pets, or anything distracting is out of the way — hot sugar can burn if touched, so just handle with care.
🔥 Instructions
1. Combine the sugar mixture
In a medium saucepan, add:
• 1 cup sugar
• 1/2 cup water
• 1/4 cup corn syrup
Stir to combine before heating.
2. Heat to 300°F (Hard-Crack Stage)
Place the pan over medium heat. Let the mixture come to a boil without stirring once it starts bubbling.
Continue cooking until the thermometer reads 300°F, which is the hard-crack stage—a must for proper hard candy.
3. Add the color + cinnamon oil
Once your mixture reaches 300°F:
• Remove it from the heat.
• Add a few drops of red food coloring.
• Add the small bottle of cinnamon oil.
Stir gently. The cinnamon aroma will be strong, which is normal for candy oils.
4. Pour onto your prepared tray
Carefully pour the hot mixture onto the tray covered with powdered sugar. Use a heat-safe spatula if needed to spread it slightly.
Dust the top with more powdered sugar. This keeps the pieces from sticking to each other once broken.
5. Cool + break
Let the candy cool completely (it only takes a few minutes).
Once hardened, lift and crack it into bite-size pieces. A small mallet, butter knife, or even your hands (once it’s cool!) work perfectly.
🎁 How to Serve or Gift
• Add pieces to holiday treat bags
• Mix into cookie tins
• Add to hot tea for fun cinnamon flavor
• Keep in a cute glass jar on your counter
They look gorgeous and taste amazing!
💡 Tips for Perfect Hard Candy
• Don’t touch the sugar while it’s boiling — it’s extremely hot.
• If your thermometer is off, you can drop a little into cold water. If it snaps into hard threads, it’s ready.
• Powdered sugar keeps the candy from sticking and adds that classic old-fashioned look.
• Store in an airtight container so it stays crisp.
