How to Make Classic Muddy Buddies (Puppy Chow)

If you’re craving something sweet, crunchy, and perfectly coated in chocolate and peanut butter, Muddy Buddies are the ultimate treat! They’re easy to make, totally addictive, and perfect for movie nights, holidays, or gifting in cute little bags. Let’s make a small-batch version that’s just right when you want a quick snack without a huge mess.

Ingredients:

• 3 cups Rice or Corn Chex cereal

• ½ cup almond bark (about 4–5 ounces, chopped) or chocolate chips

• ¼ cup creamy peanut butter

• 1 tablespoon butter

• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional but adds great flavor)

• ½ cup powdered sugar

Instructions:

1. Melt the chocolate. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine almond bark (or chocolate chips), peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 20–30 second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth and melted.

2. Add vanilla. Stir in the vanilla extract for an extra layer of flavor.

3. Coat the cereal. Pour the melted mixture over the cereal in a large bowl. Gently stir until every piece is coated and glossy.

4. Add the sweetness. Transfer the coated cereal to a large zip bag or lidded container. Add the powdered sugar, seal, and shake until everything is covered and looks snowy white.

5. Cool and enjoy! Spread it out on wax paper to set, then dig in once cooled.

Tips for Perfect Muddy Buddies:

• Don’t overheat your chocolate — it melts fast! Stir often so it stays smooth and silky.

• Use Rice Chex for a light, classic crunch or Corn Chex for a slightly sweeter, toastier flavor.
